The issue that looms large for the upcoming Southern Baptist Convention in Louisville, Kentucky is the announced Great Commission Resurgence and the anticipated move by President Johnny Hunt to appoint a committee to study the overall structure of the convention. The document calling for a GCR has garnered widespread support as well as strong opposition. The main concern of many of the opponents is Article IX, which calls for a “more effective convention structure.”
As I have noted previously, I think the Great Commission Resurgence effort is a good thing and worthy of support. It is simply time for Southern Baptists to take an honest look at what we are and what we are not. Why should anyone object to such an appraisal?
