But this quest for meaning in itself, though it fell short of Solomon’s hope, nevertheless yielded important fruit.  One must not look to the nature of the things that happen to a person in this life as that which distinguishes between the righteous and the unrighteous, the loved and the hated. These events will have different effects on the mind and spirit of those whom God has distinguished by grace or reprobation, but in the present appearance of the events themselves, they appear the same in this life
